Our bee-keeping project

Wherever we grow plants, we need pollinators – and bees are the best creatures for the job. That’s why we run Grounded Bee’zz.
Grounded Bees was originally developed by Boscombe Forum, following a generous £3,000 donation from Lush Cosmetics. Shortly afterwards, Grounded took over the lead on the project, and went on to secure further funding which was used to fund new bee hive colonies.
Today, Grounded Bees has a number of colonies on the Sovereign Centre rooftop and two in the Nursery Garden. – We are always looking for homes for more hives.
Our Grounded Bees project is led by our bee-keeper Fred Sedgley who is extremely passionate about keeping bees. He’s a local fireman as well as the drummer in a band – a man of many talents! Fred has bees for Ten years and says he is still no expert. Fred Has been on the committee of the Bournemouth Bee Keepers Association and ran the local Honey Show.
get the buzz – volunteer!
We are looking for people to commit to a few years of supporting our bee-keeping programme. This may mean becoming a facilitator of some of our hives, to expand our produce and support the local eco system.

support our hives
If you would like to learn more about our hives, come and take a look for yourself. We host visits for adults and children to our hives – see our events page for details of forthcoming events or contact us for more details.
We also offer businesses the opportunity to sponsors a hive and we will then host a session for employees.
