SUPPORT OUR WORK
How to donate

Big or small, every gift you give helps transform our community. Regular donations ‘fuel’ our core work and allow us to focus on building a thriving local food system rather than fundraising. Click here to find out where the money goes and here to read the story behind the Friends of Grounded.
Online donations
When you make a monthly or one-off donation of any amount, you will automatically join the Friends of Grounded and enjoy regular email updates, a free pdf growing guide and 25% off our workshops (excluding Grounded Bee Experiences). Every single penny of your donation counts and we’ll direct the money towards whichever project needs it the most.
Why monthly donations by direct debit have a bigger impact
- Regular donations provide us with a predictable income so we can commit to reaching more people.
- The processing fee is lower on direct debits than for one-off donations, allowing your gift to go even further.
With your support, we will keep working until everyone living in urban communities has access to locally grown nutritious food.

Where does my donation go?
Grounded Community is run by local people for local people.
Historically we have been entirely volunteer-powered but the development of our six key projects and a growing volunteer team led our trustees to employ a small staff team: a Projects Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, six Project Coordinators and an Administrator. Our garden, beekeeping and composting spaces are loaned to us free of charge and our food hub is provided at a reduced rent. All of the food that we distribute, cook or transform into compost is donated or locally grown. Our major costs going forward are salaries, rent (food hub), resources (seeds & volunteer sundries) admin, training, communications and van maintenance costs.
Will you invest in the future of our community and others like it; a future in which everyone has access to nutritious, locally grown food?

Why ‘Friends of Grounded’?
We have come a long way since our inception in 2012. Today, with the support of our community, we are proudly sharing the skills and resources that people need to grow their own food; connecting people with nature, with food and with each other; building a collaborative, thriving neighbourhood with improved health and wellbeing.
Our survival has always been dependent on the love, time and financial support of our followers and funders but we recognised that to sustain our charity for years to come, we needed to do more. In 2021 we applied for the National Lottery Community Fund and were thrilled to be successful. We were awarded a 5 year grant that guarantees us 60% of our charity running costs. This transformative funding has allowed us to recruit a small part-time team who now deliver our six amazing projects.
To ensure a truly long-term impact, reduce our reliance on grant-funding and spend more time delivering our projects, we are seeking other sustainable sources of income. So we are reaching out to our amazing supporters to become Friends of Grounded.
Where will your money go?
Any donation – no matter how small – will help us in our mission to educate, share and grow, and support our local community. Below are just a few examples of how we might use your donation:
£2.50 could pay for a garden volunteers’ tea break.
£5 could enable a child from a low-income family to take part in a beekeeping experience.
£7.50 could enable a low–income family to attend our Little Gardeners play group.
£10 could enable 10 collections of surplus food to redistribute.
£15 could fund a place on a beginners’ food growing workshop.
£25 could pay for our composting team to process food waste from 10 local businesses.
£50 could enable a half day gardening workshop for 15 people.
£150 could fund a full raised bed installation for a low-income family, including soil & plants.
£400 could set up a bee hive and help our bee keeper to run it.
