Growing a Sustainable Community

Why we grow

The Five C’s of Grounded

When we grow , eat, cook and share food together it brings people a deeper connection to their surroundings and each other.

Our gardens and spaces are great for those who don’t get out much, or just want to be involved in something positive.

Care of self –

As the saying goes “we are what we eat”. Much of the vitamins and minerals that we need to keep our bodies healthy are reduced in our current mass farming methods. We grow organically so the best stuff goes inside you.

Our planet needs better care. Our current food system is not sustainable with too much packaging, air miles, chemicals and waste. We can look after our planet better when we buy local. Everything from Grounded is chemical free, as far as possible package free and comes in a recyclable box.

Growing food is lots of fun for the whole family but sometimes we don’t know where to start. Here at Grounded we want to resource and skill you to grow at home. That way you know exactly where your food has come from and what’s gone into producing it.

Crisis –

We think that everyone, regardless of background or bank account should have the opportunity to access good organic vegetables. People in our area go short of healthy food and we want that to change. We run a subsidised veg box scheme for low income families and facilitate local enterprises to help people get back on their feet.

How We Grow

At Grounded we really try to use as many natural methods as possible. Whilst Poly Tunnels and Greenhouses are not natural environments, in our climate these enable growth for longer periods and of different varieties. We try to make these as natural as possible. We grow wild flowers and edible flowers, we do hanging baskets of different flowers to create diverse habitats and attract bee’s for pollination.

We use no chemicals and try to keep in sync with natural cycles and seasons.

We also like to experiment with different methods, No Dig, Hydroponics and aquaponics, Hay bale, growing in different objects and others.

Our compost is a mix of food waste from raw sources (avoiding meat substaces), card, straw, manure, organic coffee grounds, Remin Rock dust, and some green manure.

Our water is as much as possible derived from water catchment. We do water with mains water, but are developing ways of cycling water and redirecting it to the right places.

We mineralise our soil and feed it, which feeds you. We use Remin Rock Dust (VOLCANIC ASH) to minerlaise our soil. Remin rock dust contains all the basic macro and micro nutrients as well as 40 other elements. For More Info:

When our fruiting plants need it we add seaweed fertilizer and sometimes our own compost tea made of nettles and comfrey.

We want to get fresh food to you as quickly as possible as veg loses its nutirients from the minute you pick it. Once 2 weeks has gone by there wont be much left unless its frozen.

Grounded Enterprises aims to gets food to you on the day of picking.

Food brings people together, let’s eat and eat well.

That’s Grounded in a Nutshell....but if you want more info

Our food is not what we think. Our bodies are made of minerals and we need minerals to survive. Our soil carries the mineral we need in our food and it is damaged, so our food is too.

We need to know what our food is made of, the easiest way to do this is to grow our own or at least know where it is coming from.

We are reliant on a mass food system which is very vulnerable. Transport systems moving food from long distances can collapse. Trade with other countries can change. The supply of our fresh food needs help.

Buying local, fresh, seasonal organic and non-processed foods is a good start. Less air miles, chemicals and packaging. The quicker you eat food from picking the better.

When Fruit and Veg grow Vitamins are produce by the growing process, but Minerals are only absorbed by the plant from the soil around it!

This means if there are only a few minerals in the soil there will only be a few minerals in the food. There are hundered of minerals but it only takes 3 minerals to grow most veg : Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), .

The minerals needed for plants growth are Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S), chlorine (Cl), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), boron (B), molybdenum (Mo), nickel (Ni), oxygen (O), carbon (C), and hydrogen (H).

The more the merrier.
